Brentford have got their new season off to a sensational start, hammering Tottenham 3-0 at the Gtech Stadium on Saturday evening.

Spurs have spent around £300 million this summer, but they were simply no match for their hosts—even with four of their new signings starting.

Mamadou Sangaré played a perfect ball into the box, which was met flawlessly by an unmarked Keane Lewis-Potter to give the hosts a deserved lead after 12 minutes.

The home side doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Antonín Kinský parried Mathias Jensen's shot only as far as Vitaly Janelt, who tapped in from close range.

Spurs, meanwhile, failed to record a single shot on target in the first half, leading Roberto De Zerbi to make a double change at half-time.
The changes didn’t make things any better for Spurs. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Sangaré saw his shot denied by Kinský, but once again the hosts were quickest to react, with Michael Kayode smashing the ball in for a third.

Things almost went from bad to worse when substitute Rodrigo Bentancur fouled Kevin Schade in the box, leaving referee Michael Oliver with no choice but to point to the spot. Fortunately for the visitors, Igor Thiago's penalty rebounded to safety off the post after Kinský dived the wrong way.

The match exposed an all-too-familiar weakness in Tottenham, who simply couldn’t handle the pressure Brentford threw at them. De Zerbi’s side have suffered back-to-back 17th-place finishes, and based on their performance in West London, it could be another disappointing season.

Next up in the Premier League, Tottenham welcome Newcastle on Saturday evening, while Brentford travel to Leeds on Sunday afternoon.
