Barcelona Women have won their fourth Women’s Champions League trophy in six years after thumping Lyon in Oslo.
The first half was a tight affair, with both sides appearing evenly matched. While both teams looked to create chances and apply pressure, neither seemed able to break down their opponents.
Lindsey Heaps thought she’d given Lyon the lead when she blasted an effort into the net after Cata Coll had denied Wendie Renard. However, following a VAR review, Heaps was judged to have been in an offside position, so the goal did not stand—though it did show that the Barca defense possessed some vulnerability.
Pajor came close for the Spanish side when she lobbed the ball over the stranded Lyon keeper, Endler, who had decided to rush off her line. Fortunately for her, the effort drifted just wide of the goal.
Lyon were later awarded a free kick in a dangerous position. Selma Bacha stepped up and forced an incredible save from Coll to keep the scores level. Graham had a chance late in the first half, but her effort was deflected wide, ensuring the two sides went into the break scoreless.
Barcelona took real control in the second half. Graham had another opportunity, but this time she could only watch as her shot sailed over the bar. Lyon tried to apply pressure of their own and forced a save from Coll, but Barcelona soon took over.
The game's opening goal came ten minutes into the second half. Pajor made up for her missed chance in the first period, drilling a clinical effort across Endler and into the back of the net at the far post. The striker doubled the lead 14 minutes later, tapping in from close range following some brilliant work by Salma Paralluelo.
Lyon had a chance of their own as they grew desperate to claw a goal back. Tabitha Chawinga broke through for a one-on-one, only to be denied by Coll, who seemingly refused to be beaten.
Paralluelo, who had been the provider earlier in the half, turned scorer in the 90th minute when her strike rifled into the top corner from the edge of the area. The Spaniard wasn’t done there either; she doubled her tally deep into stoppage time, netting a ball from Pajor to cap off a spectacular second-half performance.
With that, the final whistle blew, securing a resounding 4-0 victory for Barcelona and cementing their return as the Queens of Europe.
