May Campbell’s hat-trick secured a six-try bonus-point victory for Saracens against fierce rivals Harlequins at the Twickenlands Stoop.

The game started at a frantic pace, and Harlequins were reduced to 14 players after just six minutes when fullback Kayleigh Powell was sent to the bin for a deliberate knock-on. Saracens were quick to take advantage; May Campbell broke off the back of a clinical maul from close range to open the scoring, with Zoë Harrison duly converting from out wide.

Harlequins weren’t to be outdone. Emma Swords put in a brilliant performance, exemplified by her fantastic work at the base of a ruck to set up captain Jade Konkel for a score. However, Saracens soon restored their lead when Alysha Corrigan made an exceptional run out wide before playing the ball back inside to centre Sophie Bridger, who dotted down. Harrison again added the extras.

Aoife Wafer, one of the most reliable number 8s in the league, showed exactly why when she peeled off the back of a lineout to burst through a gap for the hosts' second try. Ella Cromack successfully converted.

For the remainder of the first half, Saracens took control. First, scrum-half Leanne Apps scored after a fantastic solo run, and then Jess Breach secured the bonus-point try before the interval. Starting from inside their own in-goal area, Saracens worked the ball to Breach, and the ‘Jess Express’ was never going to be stopped.

Trailing 12–28 at half-time, the home side knew they had work to do, but their mountain became steeper when Campbell added her second try inside the opening ten minutes of the second half. She completed her hat-trick before the hour mark, with Quins' task made even harder when Aoife Wafer was yellow-carded between the two Campbell scores.

In a twist of discipline, Jess Breach’s replacement, Amelia MacDougall, was on the pitch for less than ten minutes before being sent to the bin for a late cover tackle. The player advantage finally paid off for Harlequins; Lagi Tuima beat the cover defense to score in the corner before Cromack added the conversion. Cromack then bagged a try of her own, driving over the line following some relentless close-range work from the home side to secure a Quins bonus point.

Saracens thought they had added another through Apps, but the score was disallowed after a TMO check, resulting in a goal-line dropout for Harlequins. However, Saracens were swiftly awarded a penalty which Zoë Harrison coolly slotted as the clock went red to end the game on a high note for Sarries.

Harlequins have now lost three in a row in the PWR, while Saracens continue their excellent form as they keep up the pressure on Gloucester-Hartpury at the top of the table.
