Liverpool were the happier of the two sides last night as they played out a 0-0 draw at The Emirates against league leaders Arsenal.
It wasn’t the best of games with both sides not necessarily playing to the standard they’re both capable of.
It was somewhat of a slugfest.
The best chance of the first half fell to Liverpool’s Connor Bradley who cannoned a shot off of the crossbar as he looked to catch out David Raya in the Arsenal goal after the Spaniard had a mixup with defender William Saliba.
Arsenal did create chances of their own through Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice who both managed to test Alisson. But neither side could manage to break the deadlock before half time.
In the second half it was much of the same in many ways with Liverpool arguably the better side especially as they managed to really limit chances for Arsenal who were looking to extend their lead at the top to 8 points.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal when these two sides met earlier in the season but he couldn’t manage to repeat that this time round as he could only managed a few wayward shots at goal.
Arsenal subbed off Viktor Gyokeres as the Swedish striker yet again struggled to perform, his replacement Gabriel Jesus came close but again just couldn’t find a way through.
The game finished 0-0 but was somewhat overshadowed by the actions of Gabriel Martinelli after he threw the ball at Bradley who was down injured before trying to push the youngster off of the field of play. Bradley is feared to have suffered a knee injury and was taken off via stretcher. Martinelli took to social media to confirm he had spoken to the Liverpool player regarding the incident and apologised with the FA confirming no further action would be taken against Martinelli.
Next up for Mikel Arteta and his side is a trip to the south coast as they face Championship side Portsmouth on Sunday in the Third Round of The FA Cup. Meanwhile Arne Slot’s team are not back in action until Monday when they welcome League One side Barnsley to Anfield in the same competition.
