Mikel Arteta described Arsenal's performance as ‘unacceptable’ after his side narrowly edged out Premier League bottom-side Wolves 2-1.

Arsenal had a relatively poor first half and could have gone in at the break behind had it not been for goalkeeper David Raya denying Hwang Hee-Chan.

Arsenal took a fortunate lead in the 70th minute when Bukayo Saka's corner deflected off the far post and then into the net off the back of Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone's head, leaving him helpless.

Wolves, who had picked up just two points from their opening 15 games, found a dramatic leveller deep into added time when Toluwalase Arokodare steered a shot past Raya after receiving the ball from Mathues Mane.

The goal, however, seemed to spur Arsenal on, even deeper into stoppage time, Saka delivered another perfectly placed ball into the box, which was inadvertently headed in by Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera. This second own goal of the game secured the win for the hosts.

It is now 10 defeats in a row in all competitions for Wolves and a fifth successive loss for manager Rob Edwards. Despite the result, Edwards insisted he was proud of his players, putting the final score down to bad luck. Arteta, however, was not particularly impressed, describing his side as ‘passive’ and calling for improvement going forward.

It was also another tough game for striker Viktor Gyokeres, who managed just five touches despite what many felt would have been a good opportunity for him to get back to his scoring ways against the league's bottom side.

Earlier in the week, Arteta called for people to leave the Sweden international alone, and it is unlikely to be the last time the manager offers his support to the striker, who has managed just six goals in 19 appearances since his summer move from Sporting.
