Unai Emery got one over his former side Arsenal today as Aston Villa picked up a dramatic 2-1 win over the league leaders.

Villa took the lead after 36 minutes when Matty Cash opened the scoring at the far post with a brilliant half volley finish, giving the home side a 1-0 lead at the break.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked much improved in the second half, brightened up by substitutions at half-time. It was Leandro Trossard who eventually levelled things up in the 56th minute with his 6th goal of the season.

Arsenal continued to apply pressure and forced Emi Martinez to make some crucial saves, notably a close-range effort from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

The two sides looked destined for a draw as the clock ticked into stoppage time. However, when Arsenal failed to clear their lines properly, Philippe Coutinho curled in a stunning effort with the last kick of the game to cause Villa Park to erupt as they took all 3 points from the league leaders Arsenal.

Both teams have a busy week with European and domestic fixtures heading their way. Arsenal head to Brugge on Wednesday in the Champions League, then they head back home as they are set to face Wolves on Saturday night in the late kick-off. The Villains are away to Basel on Thursday night in the Europa League before they head to London as they are away to West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
