The Red Roses kicked off their home World Cup campaign with a resounding victory defeating the USA in a dominant performance at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

The final score, England 69-7 USA, speaks for itself, showcasing the Red Roses' clinical finishing and power from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, England asserted their dominance, with Sadia Kabeya scoring the first try, setting the tone for the match. While the USA's Jenny Jarrell-Searcy responded with a try of her own to bring the score to 14-7, it was a brief moment of hope for the visitors. The Red Roses then went into overdrive, scoring a flurry of tries to take a commanding 28-7 lead into half-time.

The second half was more of the same, as England's relentless attack proved too much for the USA defense. Tries came from across the squad, with Jess Breach and Lark Atkin-Davies each scoring a brace. The Red Roses showcased their diverse attack, with both powerful forward drives and sublime backline moves leading to scores. A particularly impressive counterattack, stemming from a USA offensive, saw Ellie Kildunne's sensational run set up Jess Breach for one of her tries, highlighting the Red Roses' ability to turn defense into attack in an instant.

While the USA showed moments of resilience and had some promising phases of attack, they were ultimately unable to contain England's superior power and precision. The Red Roses' forwards were dominant at the set-piece, providing a solid platform for their backs to exploit the space.

This victory is a significant statement from England, who are the tournament hosts and strong favourites to lift the trophy. They are now on an impressive 28-match winning streak and have shown that they are in peak form.

This commanding performance will undoubtedly send a message to their rivals and gives them the perfect start to their World Cup campaign. The packed Stadium of Light crowd was treated to a masterclass from their home side, and the atmosphere was electric, marking a fantastic opening to what promises to be an exciting tournament. With a record crowd of 42,723 for a Women's Rugby World Cup game the tournament has kicked off in style.

A special mention also to Red Roses stalwart Emily Scarratt who created history becoming the first Red Roses player to appear in five World Cups.
