Aston Villa 0 - 0 Newcastle United
The early match of the day at Villa Park was a tense and cagey affair that ended in a goalless draw. Both teams had their moments, but the real turning point came in the second half when Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa was shown a straight red card for a pull back on Antony Gordan as he was through on goal. Despite being down to ten men for over 20 minutes, Villa's defense, anchored by Tyrone Mings, held firm and denied Newcastle a breakthrough. The Magpies will be disappointed not to have capitalized on their numerical advantage, especially as they were without star striker Alexander Isak. For Villa, it's a hard-earned point to start the season, while for Newcastle, it's a mixed bag—a clean sheet away from home is a positive, but the lack of an attacking threat without their key player is a concern.

Tottenham Hotspur 3 - 0 Burnley
Tottenham Hotspur got their campaign off to a flying start with a comfortable victory over newly promoted Burnley. Spurs' attacking prowess was on full display, with Richarlison grabbing a brace, including a fantastic acrobatic second goal, and Brennan Johnson adding a third. New signing Mohammed Kudus also impressed on his debut, providing assists for both of Richarlison's goals. While Burnley fought bravely, they were ultimately outclassed by a Spurs side that looked sharp and clinical following their midweek Super Cup defeat to PSG. It was a perfect start for the North London club and a difficult welcome back to the top flight for Scott Parkers men.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1 - 1 Fulham
Brighton and Fulham shared the spoils in a hard-fought draw at the American Express Stadium. Brighton looked to be on their way to victory after taking the lead from the penalty spot through Matt O'Riley in the second half. However, Fulham showed great resilience and snatched a dramatic equalizer in the 97th minute through Rodrigo Muniz. The result will feel like a missed opportunity for Brighton, who will be disappointed to concede so late, while Fulham will be delighted to have salvaged a point on the road.

Sunderland 3 - 0 West Ham United
In a dream return to the Premier League, Sunderland thrilled their home fans with a dominant 3-0 victory over West Ham United. The Black Cats showcased a dynamic, attacking performance that caught the Hammers by surprise. Goals from new signing Mayenda, Dan Ballard, and Isidor sealed the three points for Sunderland. For West Ham, it was a a frustrating and disappointing start to the season, as they struggled to create any meaningful chances and were thoroughly outplayed by the newly promoted side. The result sends a clear message that Sunderland are here to compete and will not be an easy opponent in the top flight. West Ham will hope this defeat and performance is a one off as they have a difficult second match on Friday night home to Chelsea.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0 - 4 Manchester City
In the day's late kick-off, it was business as usual for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side served a stark reminder of their title credentials with a comprehensive demolition of Wolves at Molineux. Erling Haaland was in ruthless form, bagging a brace, while summer signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki enjoyed dream Premier League debuts, each getting on the scoresheet. Reijnders in particular was a standout performer, pulling the strings in midfield and providing the assists for both of Haaland's goals. The victory was a statement of intent from the reigning champions, and a worrying start for a Wolves side that struggled to cope with City's speed and precision.
