The 2025-26 Premier League season kicks off tonight with defending champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth at Anfield.
Liverpool, under manager Arne Slot, will be looking to start their title defense on a strong note, despite a recent Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace.
The Reds have had a busy summer, with several new attacking players, including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, expected to make their Premier League debuts. This new-look forward line will aim to fill the void left by the departure of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz. Meanwhile, Liverpool's defense, which has shown some vulnerabilities in pre-season, will be tested by a Bournemouth side that caused some upsets against top teams last season.
Bournemouth, who finished a respectable ninth last season, have also seen significant changes to their squad, particularly in defense. They will be hoping to capitalize on any early-season jitters from the champions, but they face a daunting task as they have a poor record at Anfield, having never won there in the Premier League.
Here are the other fixtures taking place over the opening weekend of the Premier League season:
Saturday, August 16th
* Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United
* Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Fulham
* Sunderland vs. West Ham United
* Tottenham Hotspur vs. Burnley
* Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Manchester City
Sunday, August 17th
* Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace
* Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford
* Manchester United vs. Arsenal
