The Super Cup final takes place tonight and it is Tottenham Hotspurs who are taking on  Champions league winners Paris Saint-Germain.

For Tottenham, this match marks the first competitive game under new manager Thomas Frank. It’s also a significant moment for defender Cristian "Cuti" Romero, who has been officially named the club's new captain. The World Cup winner takes over the armband from the recently departed Heung-Min Son. Frank praised the Argentine's leadership qualities, stating that Romero "leads from his behaviour on the pitch" and "is always pushing the team." His appointment as captain is a clear sign of his importance to the club and may quell recent transfer speculation linking him with a move away.

Spurs qualified for the Super Cup by winning the Europa League last season, a victory that salvaged a very difficult league campaign where they finished a record lowest placed finish in 17th.

Despite the trophy, manager Ange Postecoglou was replaced, and the team will be looking to their new signings, including Mohammed Kudus and João Palhinha, to make an immediate impactto the side. However, they go into tonight with a number of key injuries, with James Maddison (ACL) potentially missing the whole season, Dejan Kulusevski, and Radu Drăgușin all side-lined, and Destiny Udogie a doubt. They are also without Yves Bissouma who was left behind due to disciplinary reasons.

PSG, the Champions League winners, come into the game looking to bounce back from a surprising 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. The French champions will be considered favourites, having been widely regarded as the best team in Europe throughout the 2024-25 season. They have a full-strength squad available, with the exception of the unsettled Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been left out of the squad amidst transfer reports. New signing Lucas Chevalier is expected to start in goal.

History is on PSG's side, as the Champions League winners have won the last six successive Super Cups. This will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two sides, setting the stage for an excellent encounter. While Spurs will be eager to start the Thomas Frank era with a trophy, they face a formidable opponent in a PSG side determined to assert their dominance on the European stage once again.
