Flintoff to leave Superchargers
Freddie Flintoff has revealed he will be leaving the Hundred franchise the Northern Superchargers following conversations with their new ownership group.
Flintoff was speaking on the ‘Beard Before Wicket’ podcast when he made the shock announcement.
Speaking to the hosts which include spinner Adil Rashid, the England Lions coach indicated he had initially been open to staying with the Headingly based side but discussions with the owners (The Sun Group) feeling left him feeling perhaps underwhelmed and certainly undervalued.
The former England captain said “I genuinely don’t do it for the money although it’s nice, but I think I’m worth more than just over a quarter of other head coaches, the money was one thing so I’m not quite sure they wanted me anyway. But then you also want to feel valued, I said this isn’t going to work for me and they weren’t going to move on it”.
It’ll come to a surprise to many that the 47-year-old has made the decision to leave after leading the Superchargers for the last two years; including overseeing a third-place finish in the most recent competition.
But it’s unlikely he will be short of offers going forward especially with the Trent Rockets losing Andy Flower to London Spirit.
